In December, you can still find the right combination of comfortable accommodations and experienced guides. But before long availability will become tight—and you don’t want to put off your trip until later in the spring, as everything winds down once Ramadan starts in May.

Peru: travel March - November
The most famous hike in South America, the Inca Trail is more than just a journey to Machu Picchu—discover other ancient Incan ruins and delight in landscapes such as cloud forest to alpine tundra. For the most enjoyable experience, plan to hire guides and porters to carry additional gear, set up camp, and prepare meals, allowing you to simply enjoy the walk.
In December, you stand a better chance of securing a permit to travel the Inca Trail for the dates you desire. Come January, when everyone is starting to book their travel and with permits being in high demand, availability start to become limited.

India: travel March - May
India is home to most of the world’s population of the rare Bengal tiger, and the window with the best chance of seeing these majestic animals in the wild is short—just a few weeks in spring, when the dry season minimizes foliage and brings the animals to watering holes. After mid-May, the blazing temperatures make heat stroke a real deterrent.
In December, you stand a better chance of securing a room at lodges close to the best national parks for tige-spotting. Capacity is limited at these locations, so the earlier you book, the better your chances. There are other accommodations, but the Taj and Pugdundee lodges offer the best naturalist guides available.
