Most cruises in the Mediterranean gives you the opportunity to visit a different port every day. From Barcelona to Athens, the ports are diverse. There are large cities like Rome, Barcelona, Athens, and Dubrovnik, as well as islands like Crete, Sicily, Catania and more. You will never arrive in a port and be bored because whether you tour places like Pompeii, Vatican City, the Acropolis, the museums of Florence; or if you stroll through beautiful towns and gardens on the Amalfi Coast, Capri, Santorini and more, you will be enchanted by the beauty and the history of this enriching area of the world.
2. Ease of Travel
Cruising is a great way to go anywhere because you unpack and pack one time, yet you visit many places. Everything you need is on board the ship ie. food, spa, entertainment, and childrens’ activities. Your cabin will be cleaned twice a day, and you will find that most employees on the ship are delighted to serve you. Everything is done for you so that all you have to do is enjoy the beautiful places you will see.
3. You Choose Your Pace
Whether you scuba or like to walk and admire the scenery, there are activities to suit everyone. If you want to dress special for dinner do it; if you want to be more casual that is acceptable too. Many ships still have a formal night where most women wear cocktail dresses and men wear sport coat and tie, however, if you don’t want to bring a dress or a sport jacket, you can dine in a venue other than the formal dining room where the food will be the same. It is up to you to decide how much or how little you want to be involved.
5. A Learning Experience

All travel provides us with learning experiences, but the Mediterranean has Pompeii, and ancient civilization that has been preserved by a volcano. The archeologists are still uncovering its treasures. In Morocco, you can observe the history of the Moors. In Rome, the Vatican is a showcase of art works you have seen all your life, but these are the originals! Greece has the Parthenon and the Acropolis. You will be amazed at how much of our ancient civilization has been preserved.
5. Variety of Cuisine
There is nothing like eating fresh pasta in Italy or moussaka in Greece or kebabs in Turkey. The lemons on the Mediterranean are the size of grapefruits and that is why they make limoncello. Don’t forget the gelatto and Italian ice. There is such a variety of cuisine that you could try something new every day. However, if you have a “plain” palate, there is always the food on the ship that may be more familiar to you.
BONUS 6. New Friends

Cruising allows you to meet and get to know people that may become life long friends. Once of the best ways to do this is to select either early or late seating and sit with the same people at your table every night. (If you don’t think you are going to like them, the maitre d will move you to a different table after the first night.) Also, eat breakfast in the dining room and sit at a table with people you don’t know. On land, you will find that a lot of people speak English. If they don’t speak it, they probably understand it. You will hear American music everywhere.
BONUS 7. Photo Opportunities

You do not have to be a photographer to take a good picture in this part of the world. The stage is set, the lighting is magnificent, and the vistas are incredible. You will want to take photos because the scenery will beckon you and you will want to share it with everyone when you return home. Not to mention that you will want to relive the trip through these photos. The water is the prettiest blue, the white washed buildings with their red clay roofs stand out, the sign light makes everything sparkle. Make your memories.
BONUS 8. Luxury Accommodations
Cruise lines brag about their bedding because like the better hotels, they take great care in selecting it. Even if you decide to book an inside cabin, the service will be excellent. However, the least you should book is an ocean view. You don’t want to miss the beautiful vistas, not to mention will you know if it is day or night? The other end of the spectrum is the suite. There are a variety of suites on a cruise ship. Some are called mini suites. These are larger than a balcony cabin but always have a balcony. Then there are also multi room suites. No matter what you select, you will find it to be comfortable.
